This documentary by France Culture on the disappearance of color in our everyday lives puts words to a feeling many of us share: color has gradually been seen as too expressive, too bold, sometimes even unnecessary. Neutral tones, on the other hand, have become synonymous with seriousness, durability, and modernity.

But in trying so hard to calm everything down, haven’t we dimmed something essential along the way?

This sweater wasn’t designed to be discreet.
