The Fibers Behind Every L'Envers Sustainable Cardigan

A cardigan lives on your shoulders through more hours of the day than almost any other piece in your wardrobe. Our cardigans in wool or cotton travel from a chilly morning coffee, thrown over one of our sustainable sweaters, to an office chair, from a dinner table to a late walk home. 

Because of that, we choose our fibers with more care than most, blending natural materials that hold their shape, their softness, and their warmth season after season, all knitted to order in small family-run workshops in Spain.

Cardigans in Merino: Light as Air, Warm as Ever

Our merino wool is soft, breathable, and naturally temperature regulating, drawing its comfort from the fine, tightly crimped fiber of the merino sheep. 

Compared to heavier fibers like yak, merino yarn is spun thinner, giving each cardigan a lighter hand without sacrificing warmth. Fully natural, renewable, and biodegradable, it remains one of the most versatile fibers we work with, equally at home in a light spring layer or a cold winter cardigan.

Cardigans in Mohair: The Halo Effect

Mohair brings an unmistakable softness and a signature luminous halo to a cardigan, but the fiber cannot stand entirely on its own. 

Our mohair cardigans are composed of 80% mohair and 20% polyamide, a small addition that stabilizes a fiber naturally too light and airy to hold its shape when worked alone.

Sourced from the angora goat, our mohair knitwear is spun in France and certified under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and IWTO guidelines, so every fiber can be traced back to its source with care for animal welfare along the way.

Cardigans in Yak: Warmth Without the Weight

Yak fiber travels the farthest of any material in our collection, sourced from herds in Tibet. 

Our yak collection is prized for being exceptionally warm relative to its weight, but we blend it with 50% French merino wool to soften the yarn and give it more drape. 

The result is a cardigan that feels lighter than its warmth would suggest, built for the coldest months without ever weighing you down.

Cardigans in Organic Cotton: Effortless, Breathable Ease

For lighter layering across the year, our organic cotton collection offers a different kind of comfort. 

Hypoallergenic and naturally breathable, it regulates temperature on its own, staying cool when the day warms up and holding a little warmth once the sun goes down. 

Our cotton is sourced from India and dyed in Portugal, chosen for both its quality and the transparency of its supply chain.
