What Goes Into Our Mohair Knitwear

Mohair is cherished for its unique combination of softness, warmth, and lightness. When choosing a mohair garment, focus on the quality of the fiber, the craftsmanship behind the piece, and the versatility it brings to your wardrobe.

Our mohair knitwear is composed of 80% mohair and 20% polyamide. Polyamide stabilizes mohair, a fiber naturally too light and airy to be worked on its own. Mohair comes from the angora goat, a breed entirely distinct from the angora rabbit it's often confused with.

Our Mohair Silk: A Rare Blend

Mohair silk blends mohair's airy warmth with the natural luster and strength of silk. Composed of 79% mohair and 21% silk, this pairing is prized for its refined drape and the soft sheen silk brings to an already luminous fiber.

Silk remains one of the rarest natural materials in existence: silkworms produce only a small amount of fiber over their lifetime, through a slow, delicate process that makes true silk costly to source.

Given this rarity and the meticulous care the blend requires, mohair silk pieces are becoming a limited part of our collection, cherished as rare finds rather than a permanent staple.

Where Mohair Meets Merino : Two Fibers, One Exceptional Knit

Merino wool knitwear offers structure, versatility, and everyday comfort, making it the foundation of a timeless wardrobe. Mohair knitwear brings lightness, texture, and softness, adding a touch of effortless elegance to every outfit.

Some of our sweaters bring together the best of both fibers in a mohair merino blend.

Each piece is knitted with three threads: 50% Spanish merino wool, 40% mohair wool dyed and spun in France, and 10% polyamide for stability. Both the merino and mohair are certified under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and IWTO guidelines, ensuring the fiber is sourced and traced with care.

The result is a soft knit that can be worn directly against the skin. For very sensitive or dermatological skin, we recommend layering a T-shirt underneath for extra comfort.

Guided by the same philosophy, we carefully select other exceptional natural fibers: from the remarkable warmth of yak and the softness of alpaca to the breathable comfort of organic cotton.

The Different Types of Mohair Sweaters and Cardigans

Mohair knitwear comes in many forms, from elegant layering pieces to statement accessories. Each style showcases the unique softness and airy texture that make mohair such a beloved natural fiber.

Mohair cardigans are among the most versatile knitwear essentials. Lightweight yet warm, they can be worn open for a relaxed look or buttoned up for a more refined silhouette. Their soft halo and fluid drape bring effortless elegance to everyday dressing.

Relaxed mohair sweaters offer a timeless approach to knitwear. Their comfortable fit and delicate texture make them ideal for layering throughout the seasons. Easy to style with denim, tailored trousers, or skirts, they are designed to become lasting wardrobe staples.

Fine-gauge mohair knits are particularly appreciated for their lightness. Airy and breathable, they provide warmth without bulk, making them perfect for transitional weather and year-round wear.

Mohair accessories, such as knitted scarves and bandanas, bring a touch of softness and color to any outfit. Crafted from lightweight mohair blends, these pieces offer an elegant way to experience the comfort of natural fibers while adding texture and personality to your look.

Whether you choose a sustainable cardigan, a delicate sweater, or a handcrafted accessory, mohair knitwear embodies a refined vision of slow fashion, one rooted in quality materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and enduring style.

Mohair Sweaters: Everything You Need to Know Before You Buy

Mohair's long, smooth fibers give it a naturally soft feel, quite different from the coarser texture some people associate with wool. Most people find it comfortable to wear directly against the skin. That said, sensitivity varies from person to person, so if you have very sensitive or dermatological skin, we recommend layering a T-shirt underneath for extra comfort.

Yes, L’Envers’ mohair comes from trusted farms that prioritize animal care and sustainable farming practices.

Absolutely. Mohair is warm yet breathable, making it perfect for layering across seasons.

We recommend handwashing your mohair sweaters in cold water and drying flat to maintain its softness and shape.

Yes, with proper care, mohair knitwear can last for years while retaining its natural luster.

Superwash is a chlorine treatment that breaks down a fiber's natural scales, then coats it to make the yarn machine washable. Our mohair knitwear never goes through this process. We keep the fiber in its natural state, preserving its softness and its signature halo.
