TELL US ABOUT YOU...
Hi, my name is Delaney, I'm 23 years old and I'm originally from Washington, D.C. I studied contemporary dance in Madrid, Spain and currently work in dance projects throughout Europe.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU ?
I love this question, but it's difficult for me to answer! I am always quizzing myself for sources of refreshing inspiration, because this is how I extract a continuity in my passion for dance. There are many things that inspire me in this moment, but right now it's the complexity of cities. There are many different cities in the world, filled with millions of individuals who all have their own story to tell. I love the different factors that set cities apart - architecture, food, language, mannerisms of citizens - unique signatures that remind you where in the world you are.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE LOVED FOR A LONG TIME ?
Dancing! It has always been something that has brought me so much joy, that I used to feel the need to hide it, protect it for myself. As a child I approached dance in a fearful way, believing that it was something that could be taken from me. Now as I acquaint myself with the professional world I feel even more nourished as an artist when I let go and allow dance to lead me - meeting new people, learning new styles, traveling and performing in new places.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE RECENTLY REDISCOVERED ?
I recently discovered a love for taking walks. Leaving my phone off, and walking my dog Chamo around the city or countryside for a few hours. It really clears the mind and refreshes my perspective when I'm feeling stuck.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OBJECT AND WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL ?
My favorite object is my natural, organic lip moisturizer. As a natural redhead, I have very sensitive skin and my lips are prone to getting both very dry and sunburnt. It's important to me to be able to keep my lips moisturized and healthy at all times, and with a natural product!
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ?
I have a lot of hope in the future, and I look forward to seeing my generation and the ones to come make a strong effort to incorporate arts into everyday culture. I need to see future politicians, in my country for example, valuing the arts as a tool for cultural communication and historical preservation of a community's values.
WHAT DOES SUSTAINABILITY MEAN TO YOU ?
To me it means being conscious of one's decisions. Making a commitment to study and respect what we consume, and educate ourselves on what we are putting into and on our bodies. It is easier to go along with the status quo of consumerism, but I really think we've reached a turning point where the world has no other choice but to choose love, and make conscious decisions with our purchases that benefit the planet and its living inhabitants.
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FASHION ?
I love fashion! I think clothing and accessories are so wonderful in their power to help us express who we are. Since working with Julie and understanding the mission at L'Envers, I can now appreciate how fashion can go a step further and reflect our ethical values as global consumers. I think it's not only important to dress in a way that you feel confident and comfortable, but to also make those conscious decisions about where your items have come from and their affect on the environment and the people who made them. Considering the ethics of fashion is just as important as choosing sustainably-sourced food.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PIECE OF L’ENVERS ?
This Anna cardigan was made in a small batch near my house in Madrid, how amazing! It's simple in its patterns with a collar that I love, and has a soft color that works well with my skin and hair color. It's made from pure organic cotton so it has a natural smell that I love! It's perfect for warming up during a morning dance class, and to put over a simple outfit on a chilly night.
